Throughout the end of March and beginning of April, we have been blessed to be taught by President and Sister Erickson, and the great missionaries from each of these zones in our first round of zone conferences of the year 2016. From Lusaka to Lilongwe, down to Blantyre and finally in the Copperbelt, these conferences were centered around Our Standard of Excellence, and highlighted the purposes behind each standard. We were also reminded of the importance of effective goal-setting and planning. In the end, we felt that each conference succeeded in bringing more energy and motivation into the Great Zambia Lusaka Mission. Their hard work and legacy will go down in the history and the heart of the Great Zambia Lusaka Mission. Each of these missionaries served diligently in their leadership assignments, and they almost reached every corner of the mission. Wish them a happy, successful post mission life! Today, the 1st of March, we are blessed to receive four new missionaries into the Great Zambia Lusaka Mission. These three new Elders (Elder Ernst, Elder Lewis and Elder Gova) and one sister (Sister Newey) are shining with the missionary spirit. We are happy to have them here and we pray for their success in the next two years and 18 months. For over 3 months, we have anticipated the visit of Elder Neil L. Andersen, and his wife Sister Kathy Andersen who would be accompanied by Elders Carl B. Cook, Stanley G. Ellis, and Khumbulani D. Mdletshe and their wives in meeting with members and missionaries here in Lusaka. This visit was centered around a special Priesthood Leadership Conference which was presided over by Elder Andersen. In conjunction with this conference, the visiting General and Area Authorities made time to hold a member devotional and a missionary meeting also. As members and missionaries participated in these three meetings, we felt of the reality of Elder Andersen's Apostolic calling from the Lord. We were blessed by his prophetic teachings and insight. To the missionaries, he re-emphasized the principles outlined in the Worldwide Missionary Broadcast which centered around "Teaching Repentance and Baptizing Converts." He then reminded members of the importance of building faith, diligence, and patience in helping the Lord to hasten His work and grow the Church here in Zambia, and to prepare the land for a Temple. Finally, in his address to the Priesthood leadership of the Stake and Districts from across Zambia and Malawi, Elder Andersen encouraged leaders to always turn to the Lord to face challenges, including the often perceived "loneliness of leadership". He also reminded them that the Lord is counting on them, and that the development of the church begins with their individual commitment and conversion. These two days we spent with this chosen servant of the Lord will surely go down in the history of the missionaries and members as a time and Spirit never to be forgotten. We had a really great zone service on February 11, 2016 to help prepare the chapel and its grounds for the arrival of Elder Neil L, Andersen. As you can see, we worked hard but had some fun along the way! This transfer we had the pleasure of welcoming 10 new missionaries into the mission. We pray for their success as they start this journey spanning the best 18 months and 2 years of their lives. Six great elders departed from the Mission this Tuesday. We pray for their success in their post-mission lives. We will live to remember the great work they accomplished. From left to right they are: Elders Mohlakoana, Walusimbi, Barrett, Hinckley, Shai, and Njeri.
Just a few weeks before Christmas, we received two wonderful Elders and a terrific Sister into the mission. From left to right, Elders Stark and Chartier, and Sister Kinikini will be serving in Blantyre, Ndola, and Blantyre respectively. Glad to receive them!
